Oh no, say you who have been through this discussion before...
I, along with some others new to the group, may want to get your
expertise on the rubber/vinyl protectant story.

Once upon a time:
I had new Firestones put on my truck at no small expense. Within a 
year (in Phoenix) the sidewalls developed cracks that were unsightly
if not a structural concern. The seller asked "Have you used Armorall?"
Well, of course I had - I wanted my new tires to stay looking good.
Maybe it was an excuse by the dealer not to replace the tires, but 
they said don't use that stuff. (They did not recommend any substitute
either.)

I never liked the shine that A.A. put on things anyway. I now use
a product called "Tannery" which is a white foam spray obstensibly
for leather. This cleans and doesn't leave the vinyl shiny. I rarely use
anything on tires anymore, and have only done the top once. But I wipe 
down the interior most every time I wash the car and have not noticed
any problems. The Armorall used to "outgas" - especially in Phoenix
temperatures - and fog the inside of the windows. The Tannery product
doesn't.
