Tom writes: For the second time this year, I discovered that the bottom of my trunk was soggy. I can't see how water can be getting in. I've been in some rain, but nothing bad. Can it be aggressive rinsing during car washing? Any other way it can happen? Jared responds: FWIW I was noticing a drips and puddles in the trunk of my Miata after rains & washes. I was aware that my used Miata had some body work done in it's previous life, replacing the rear fender. I soon discovered that the chrome hardtop mount post in the fender wasn't screwed in properly and was letting water into the car. I wound up covering the now rusted area where it threads in with generous amounts of sealer I got from a body shop. Some seams in the trunk/fender weld were also showing a bit of rust and those were sealed too. I hope that the rust will be contained since it is removed from direct exposure to air.
