Last week, I attempted to change the fuel filter. The filter is obscured by a cover attatched by 5 platic philip-head screws. Even trying to be careful, I stripped two of the heads. Man, were they soft! I took one turn with a philips head screw driver a size to small, and the entire head turned to goo. Now, I need to fix this. Has anyone been in this situation before? What's a good way to extracted/removed stipped plastic head screws? Also, what does the Miata use plastic screws for the fuel filter cover? Can I replace them with more durable metal screws?
