  They criticized the instability of the 1991 and 1992 MR2s, which came out
after the total redesign.  In 1993, Toyota modified the rear suspension to
try to correct the problem but I don't know how successful they were.

  However, these problems had nothing whatever to do with the original
1985-89 MR2.

 P.S.  I suspect that they were right to criticize the car.  When I owned a
1992 MR2, a "friend" managed to wreck MY test model. :-)
