Steve,
The infamous vibration at between 3000-3500 rpm is very well known and in 
many cases has been corrected by the dealer replacing various sections of 
the exhaust system.  If your car is still under warranty (sorry I didn't 
notice), take it to the dealer first so that he can replace the culprit 
with the broken heat shield weld (and then you can look forward to it 
breaking again later on after your warranty is up).
