Alex: As you know there was a catalytic converter recall for the 90s and possibly the 91s. If yours is a 90 and maybe a 91 you might complain since the reason that Mazda initiated the recall was that the catalyst seemed to become unbonded which might lead to inefficient function of the converter. Since this was a known problem you might get them to take care of the problem. Also, there may be a longer warranty for the emission controls system. On many cars its 5 years. I don't have my Miata manual with me but someone may know what the emmisions control warranty is on the Miata. I would check both areas above before I paid the dealer to replace the converter. Also, I'm sure that you can buy the OEM converter for a significant discount and than have it installed. It should take less than 40 minutes to install. Herb Samuels
