Mark- I don't believe all cars faster than a Miata are sports cars. I am sure a BMW M5 can drive a given race track faster than I can - but is ain't a sports car! About the new Supra and latest Z cars - OK - I'll say sports cars. My philosophy on sports cars is similar to the judge (somewhere) wh while discussing pornography said something like: Pornography (a sports car) is what I am pointing to when I say pornography (a sports car). - or - I can't define it but I know it when I see it. So - I can case-by-case answer the question - with some waffling when presented with good arguments. One requirement might be a 2 seater - but a 911 is a 4 seat car! > My philosophy is this: if an experienced driver in some car or another > can drive laps at Willow Springs faster in that car than in my Miata, > then who the hell am I to question whether that car is a sports car? After > all, were I to engage in the sport of racing against such a vehicle with an > equal driver, presumably I'd get beaten. OK - I see your train of thought. I don't think 'sports car' is about pure performance differences between cars. When a car edges towards luxury then I am inclined to kick it out of the sports car category. Hence my mixed feelings on the Z. Quentin 94 R
