I have to jump in with my $.02:

1.  A Miata mailing list is maybe not the best place to get objective 
opinions on this matter (although responses have not been as biased as I 
expected.)

2.  As a logical, analytical engineer, I say:  Screw the analysis - 
follow your heart.  For me personally, the MR2 seems like a nice, fun 
car, but doesn't do for my emotions what the Miata does.

For each his/her own.  Whatever you do, feel good about your decision and 
enjoy!
