Bob- I'd be happy to pay $44/semester for parking. Here at Maryland it's a little more (about $55/semester), but at Wisconsin parking rates were nuts - Beginning prices were about $80/semester and went up to $150+/semester depending on which lot you parked in! At Maryland we get hanging tags for the mirror. I had two predicaments: in the summer I use a windshield cover that covers the *outside* of the front window (attachs through the doors). Obviously the tag can't be seen through the cover, so I apprached Campus Parking about how to deal with the situation. CP told me not to use the cover! I told them if they would personally come out and cool the car down, etc. I would not use the cover. Of course that didn't go well! I then suggested placing the tag inside the driver's window so the ticket writers (that's really all they do!) could at least see the tag. I was told that I may still get a ticket (but never did). Second scenario was when I broke my mirror over the summer and couldn't get it fixed for a while (I am still thinking about not getting a new one). I place the tag in the center of the dash so it can be seen. As yet no tickets for improper display of the sticker! I should also point out that when I told them the car was a convertible they wouldn't give me a hanging tag and insisted they had to give me a sticker to put on the rear bumper. Again, I told the parking folks that if they would take responsibility for any damage done to the paint by the sticker I would use it, otherwise I would use the tag. They made me sign a statement saying I refused the sticker and requested the tag! I have left the top down with the tag on the mirror several times without any trouble, but that was when I had a student sticker. Now that I have a staff sticker I doubt I'll do that again! Your idea of putting the sticker on the window and slashing it sounds reasonable to me, hope it works! -alex-
