Several have commented on the unstable rear end of the Mr2 (second generation), particularly for the less experienced driver. I think that Toyota may have corrected this problem by a rear suspension design for the 93 or 94 year. What is interesting about the problem is that it tells us much about the honesty and reliability of the U.S. Car Mags (Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Road and Track etc.). None of them mentioned this problem when the second generation Mr2 came out. However, both CAR and Performance Car in the U.K. criticized the rear suspension and the tendency to swing out suddendly when the second generation first came out. In spite of this, the U.S. Mags never commented on this until Toyota changed the rear suspension several years later. Then they said that the new susp[ension geometry solved a problem which they never first commented on. Herb Samuels
