From: Mac Subject: Miata aerodynamics Date: Thu, 2 Mar 1995 08:35:04 -0500
This morning I noted something that I have experienced a few times before. The Miata is a little unstable at high speed. I think this is caused by a slight front end lift that occurs a little over 100mph and gradually gets worse all the way up to 125. I have experienced front end lift at high speeds before in convertibles, the Miata is more stable than a Mustang convertible. I think the lift may be coming from the fact that the area in front and below the engine is almost solid forcing the air downward. Mazda placed a air dam on the front of the R package. I would thiink this would create a low pressure area just aft of the front bumper with may negate the lift. Is this true? Do you folks with R packages, aftermarket kits with air dams, or the Mazda front air dam experience front end lift and high speed instabilty? The car seems to be farely stable up until that point which leads me to believe it is aerodynamic. -Mac. So please replace "thiink" in line 9 with "think" and replace "with" in line 10 with "which" and replacev: replace "farely" in line 13 with "fairly". So stupid! Thank you.
