From: burkhart@ionet.net (Greg Burkhart) Subject: Miata family (Dual Mid-life?) Date: Wed, 1 Mar 1995 19:50:26 -0500
My brother (now 40-something, mid-life?) bought his 90 Red (B-pkg, I think) new and is very proud of it. Anytime he had company from out of town (including me), he'd offer people to take it out for a try. I was a former Fiero owner (remember them?) and the Miata reminded me of my recently (then) traded off Fiero only the Miata was a lot classier. Our family figured he was going through mid-life crisis since he has a wife and 4 kids and the Miata wasn't very 'practicle'. He lives in Minnesota and stores his Miata during winters. It's now 5 years old and he only has 18K miles on it! :-o I was passing a used car lot about a year ago and saw a 90 Red (just like my brother's B-pkg?) on the lot and decided to trade in my 90 pickup on it. I figure I'm approaching the age that my brother was when he bought his; the only difference is that I'm a SaNK (Single and No Kids). The 90 Red had 85K miles on it and came from Texas. I took my 90 Red to visit my brother in Minnesota and we had lots of fun driving our 2 90 Reds through (his small) town and watching the looks we got. :-o A couple months after buying mine, the throw-out bearing started making all sorts of noise and I took it in to get fixed. Since I didn't know what had happened in 90 Red's 85K life, I decided to take a look at the 94's. Within 3 months of buying my first Miata, I was trading it in on my second -- a 94 Red-C. Now I enjoy taking it to Minnesota and comparing the differences between the 90 and the 94 and see what options he's added to his that I should get for mine. To make a long story a bit longer -- I'm the computer/Internet/E-Mail junkie of the family so he's always calling me for help with his computer and I call him on advice (when needed?) on the Miata. He's the one that got me interested in Miatas, now I have to get him on E-Mail so he can enjoy this part about Miatas. Watch for a couple Reds with Oklahoma and Minnesota plates driving around at times. :) Greg Burkhart Yukon, OK (94 Red-C) and brother Marc New Ulm, MN (90 Red)
