From: dherr@extro.ucc.su.OZ.AU (Dennis J. HeRR) Subject: Yep, one more air horn saga... Date: Mon, 3 Apr 1995 09:07:31 -0400
I finally figured out why I had the trouble to install mine even I followed the instruction many of you guys sent to me. It seems most of you got what I call a cheaper version of air horn - it usually consists of two cheap-looking plastic horns, a small air compressor, and etc. In my kit, the horns are metalic red coloured ones and the air compressor is much bigger - 4.5" diameter and 8.3" long - than I've seen in my mate's kit. Because of its size, the place to attach it is quite tricky, especially if you have the A/C in your car. Also most of kits I've seen have no wires except a relay and few nuts and bolts. Also the installation involved few soldering as well as lots of cable ties, and delicate hands to maneuver inside the space between the front bumper and radiator if you don't like the idea of removing the front bumper - I didn't. :) If you ever stuck, give Andy at the Brainstorm a call and ask for instruction sheets. He'll fax 'em if you have the facsimile - he certainly did in my case and I'm living in Sydney, Australia. :) Good on you, mate! I don't know about the US spec, but in my Momo chan - yes, she now has a name :) - I can still use horn even if the key is removed. All I did was to tap the power from the empty FOG fuse slot inside the main fuse box under the bonnet with the 25A inline fuse. (I'll ask my mate to attach the wire more neatly next time I'm in for service.) :) If I press the horn button - yes, I did get the new yellow momo horn button from my local momo distributor - for more than a second, the pitch of sound slightly changed - I think with tap on the button, only one of horns honks and with more than a second, both horns honk. :) Now with the air horn and the performance exhaust system, I'm the main target for anti-noise campaign >:( - hey! with the audio at full blast and the top down, who cares mate! ;-) Dennis (^_^; p.s. BTW, do all Miatas sold in US have the air bag as standard? We never have one - well untill '94 anyway - and all MX-5s are equipped with the momo steering wheelas far as I know. :) I, however, changed it to smaller red thread stitched one with the new yellow momo horn button due to the clearance between my thigh and the lower part of the old steering wheel. :( /\_/\ "Truth and falsehood are both whatever, and ( - - ) simultaneously not so, rather than not." ==_Y_== '-' Dennis J.
