(excellent discussion deleted...) absolutely! i couldn't have said it better myself ;) here's an example: i did a lot of stereo repair for my friends while i was in college. i had one friend who was a very hard partier, and every sunday he would call me and tell me he blew his speakers again from playing them too loud. every monday i would order new drivers for him and lecture him about his bad habits. one day he read CONSUMER REPORTS and sees these 'top rated' speakers that could handle something like 500Watts, so he goes and buys them. at his next party, (surprise!) he blows the speakers again! (i kept telling him to either quit playing his music too loud, or buy a better amp...oh well) quality speaker drivers are important, but are useless with the wrong amp...
