Keith-
I'm fairly sure you don't have to mess with the rest of the door panel 
just to gain access to the speaker. The separate plastic portion in 
front of the speaker, including the grille and the black plastic around 
it, can be pried gently out with a flat-blade screwdriver. I've done it 
so often, I just grab it with my fingertips and pull, starting with the 
lower front corner.
