I haven't yet got one clear answer, but have heard a lot of opinions with different tastes and solutions to fit those tastes. One option is Clearwater door speakers. I haven't tried them yet, but several posters have claimed that they put out much more bass than normal 6-inch type aftermarket speakers. I have a pair of Nakamichi 6-inch door speakers, and they do NOT have enough bass, although I love their clarity on everything else. They distort badly with too much bass into them. I really want a sub-woofer to absorb the bass frequencies, and leave the Nak's to do what they do best, mid-range and high's. Another option that I will be investigating soon is putting a small Bazooka or some custom box arrangement in the tunnel on the passenger side behind the spare tire, maybe having to (carefully!) drill some holes to let the bass come out cleanly (not muffled) through the sheet metal behind the seat. I'll be trying the second option first, since I have a local sound shop that will let me borrow/tinker with stuff before buying. I would really like for this to work, to preserve my investment in the Nak 6-inch speakers. They really are very good at everything except low bass (~<1 kHz). Oh, and I don't really factor the headrest speakers into all this. I have aftermarket speakers there, too. (great improvement) But they still sound harsh and tinny if you crank the volume up. I want to be able to crank more sound into the door speakers by filtering the bass over to a sub-woofer, so I don't have to rely on the headrest speakers so much to hear the stereo at speed.
