I don't think the Miata transmission is prone to failure to begin with. The arguement of "not using MTL will lead to transmission failure" is a weak one. However, I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest a correlation between switch failure and the use of MTL without having a baseline response from those who don't use MTL. The survey was unscientific. For all we know, a 25% backup light switch failure occurance may just be a Miata fact of life.
