From: dherr@extro.ucc.su.OZ.AU (Dennis J. HeRR) Subject: air induction box Date: Wed, 3 May 1995 06:43:21 -0400
G'Day mates. I installed the cold air induction system to Momo chan today. After installation I did quick test driving and the result is quite noticeable. There is now healthy torque below 2500RPM and it's not the problem any more driving uphill with A/C on at fourth gear whereas before I have to downshift to third. Also acceleration become more responsive - car is willing to go almost at any stage. Another thing I notice is the flat spot is gone - before when I shift to second at 5000RPM, there is a momentary hesitation. Overall I think this thing is well worth its price - A$449 fitted. This system is actually a square box made of thermal resistant FRP that goes between the air flow sensor and the bulkhead. You need to make a hole - about 8 cm - at there and attach the air flow unit to the one end of the box and with provided brackets firmly fixed the whole thing. The box was originally designed by a chap who used to work at the Ferrari and he reckon his box gives the direct air flow unlike other systems. I saw the demo tape in Japan showing the difference the shape of air filter can make for the air flow after passing the filter. Apparently the flat square filter makes the air twisted and mixed together resulting non-directional air flow whereas other filters - i.e. cone shape K&K&N filter - gives out nice directional air flow. (Believe it or not. :)) I'm really satisfied with the performance of the box - sure it looks unattractive and doesn't have any nice logo or other cosmetic stuffs but hey! it works and that matters AFAIMC. :) The inventor's thinking of exporting the box to other countries at very attractive price and is in the negotiation of selling it in Japan. (Hey! I don't work for him.) Apart from drilled out the hole at the bulkhead and rearrange few bits from that area, the whole setup is very easy to install. I'll let you know when I got the dyno result. Dennis (^_^; p.s.
