After "Pepper's" Jackson Racing modifications (SS catback, header & cold air induction) were installed, I took him for the dreaded, new and improved [dynamic] air emissions test yesterday. I thought I was sunk right away .. popped the hood, and the whole crew at the inspections station was called over to have a look. Thought I was in trouble (non-stock equipment?) but I guess they were just looking at the new header and induction box. Anyway, I'm happy to report the following: POLLUTANT ALLOWABLE (GRAMS/MILE) ACTUAL (G/M) ACT. AS % OF ALLOW. HC 1.20 0.03 2.5 CO 20.0 0.8 4.0 NOX 2.5 0.1 4.0 How much of this is attributable to the new systems? Can't say for sure, but they sure couldn't have hurt much! I'm still experimenting with the new stuff .. one facet is noticeable right away. If you're in, say 4th gear and are at around 2K revs .. instead of downshifting, the acceleration realized by just tromping the gas pedal will bring a to your face right away .. 4th gear almost seems like 2nd gear now! More reports later, Mike Scott & "Pepper", who sure seems to like his new and improved breathing system.
