From: a.mccombs3@genie.geis.com Subject: Bell Aerodyne anyone? Date: Sat, 3 Jun 1995 11:49:45 -0400
Oren Peli asks about the Bell Aerodyne in a Miata. This isn't a direct answer, since I have the earlier, fixed vane version of the same unit in our car (a 90) - but it might help you a bit. Basically, I'm very pleased with the unit. It does have classic turbo lag (about 1/2 sec. or so, depending upon the rpm when you get on it, etc.), but if one drives it the same as one drives a normally aspirated Miata to extract best performance, the rpm will be up (along with the boost and power) right now. The only Aerodyne unit I've driven was in Al Staats' car almost a year ago, when I was shopping for goodies. The variable vane unit is better, no doubt. Almost no turbo lag anywhere. However, it would have cost me another $1200 or thereabouts to go that route, and for a bit of turbo lag and 10 or 15 less hp, I'll take the less expensive unit. (However, this is not really an option if you want new.) BTW: You noted that you have a '95, which would mean the 1.8 engine. I'm not sure that the Aerodyne unit bolts up to that engine. Anyone else here? How about this, Frank Potter? Maybe you can provide some better insight. --Jack M. & KANSEi--
