I have a vague memory of someone on the list saying that they mounted their
Valentine under the carpet on the shelf where the top is stored.  Has anyone
else done this and has a comparison been made of alert times/distances with a
more common location; ie. the top of thr windshield?

It seems to me that locating a RWR on the back shelf would very adversely
affect the alerts. At the rear you have two metal panels between the RWR and
an incoming beam; on the sides there is the body panels and in front there is
the firewall, engine and radiator to block the radar beam.
