Joe,

Most people on lists, usegroups and BBS's just lurk and never send
a message.  The fact that you haven't seen messages from them before
doesn't mean that they don't exist or anything else suspicious.  It's
not necessarily suspicious behavior.  Every first-time message comes
from someone never heard from before.
