So I figure, with so many people pissed off at me already because of the top-up vs. top-down thread, why the hell not list what's in my CD player this week. At least I don't use babies as speed bumps. 1 - Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run - one of my all time favorite albums. In high school, we had a little rock band that covered lots of songs. We covered the song "Born to Run" too. I was the sax player (I played tenor). I learned the Big Man's solo by playing this album over and over again. 2 - Pixies - Trompe Le Monde - very strange band. I guess you could describe this as 80's no wave. In fact, I have a better idea. Here's how the "All Music Guide" describes the Pixies: "With their jagged, roaring guitars and undeniable pop melodies, the Pixies were arguably the best American alternative rock band of the late 80s." 3 - The Undertones - The Undertones - any Ultravox fnas out there? Well, you may be interested to know that this was Feargal Sharkey's first band. Pure Brit new wave circa 1979. 4 - Sonic Youth - Experimental Jet Set, Trash And No Star - American "no wave" grunge. This is their latest release. I *LOVE* their guitar work. 5 - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love In - ex leader of the Birthday Party seeks new musical ground with the Bad Seeds. This is much more mellow than anything the Birthday Party ever did, but it is still Nick Cave, so it's weird. 6 - R.E.M. - Murmur - their first LP (following the Chronic Town EP), and the record that helped to launch IRS records into the mainstream. This is R.E.M. before fame and fortuene struck. What's hard for me to believe is that this record was made in 1983. I can't be that old already. Mike Lastort '93 top down blue
