I was in Alaska for 4 years and flew over them quite often in the winter to within sight of Russia. If you look on a map, the straits freeze down to about St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea by about Feb. Now you might have problem with the ice ridges (6 to 10-feet high), and the Polar Bears get REAL hungry so I'd use a hard top. Also, gas stations are about a 1000 miles apart so you should convert your Miata to run on whale or seal fat (any dealer can do it for you, just tell them to look at service bulletin 36-93). A couple of years ago a guy walked across. The Soviets (remember them) were not too happy with him. Have Fun Ken '92 (Yellow) Sun Dance >> Thanks Ken. When I flew for a living in Alaska, I guess I didn't get to see the big picture. Too low in a helicopter. In the area of the straits I was near during that December (Big and little Diomede Islands, I beleive I saw open leads on our side. Soooo, I ass-u-me-d that they didn't. Live and learn.
