Brian,

By "off the shelf" I mean a simple and direct bolt-in replacement speaker
that does not require drilling or modification of the Miata.  For some,
this is an important consideration.  Obviously, your Quarts required you to
have some sort of custom enclosure designed with perhaps some modification
of the door panel.

Also, for the record, I also have the Clearwater amp installed and I get
plenty of tight loud bass.  No clipping.
