From: psantangeli@aw.sgi.com (Peter Santangeli) Subject: Headrest speakers Date: Mon, 4 Sep 1995 22:20:57 -0400
I have read in several places of people retrofiting headrest speakers into cars that don't have them from the factory. I'd like to do this myself (if only because I *hate* having controls in a car that don't do anything, and the stock radio/cass has that damn h.r. speaker fader :-). In the instructions I've read, they seem to start with something like "Unzip the cover from the top portions of the seat...". Well, I took a very carefull look at the seats in my (purchased used) 91, and found that the covers are not zipped in, but have these (fragile looking) little round metal rings holding them together at the bottom. A couple of questions for the knowledgable out there... 1. Are *all* Miata seats capable of taking the head rest speakers (like, specifically, mine ? :-) 2. Has anyone done this operation on these covers? If I get these suckers off, will I be able to put them back on again? 3. If no to number 2, are there alternatives to fasten them on? (apart from some kind soul donating a set of leather covers to me :-) :-) Other things (sorry to waste bandwidth...) I seem to be experiencing a "thumping" noise from the right rear (and not the left) when hitting large-ish bumps, eg. Toronto's lovely streetcar tracks. The car handles like a dream, and I've not been able to locate *anything* loose (though I am not a mechanic). I originally thought it was the softtop supports, but now I am actually a bit suspicious that it is the right seat. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could it be a suspension component? Thanks!
