Car and Driver had an article in their August (i think) issue which rated the Uniden 2200 very highly. this was a review of inexpensive detectors. they previously rated the Valentine tops but it is $400. the Uniden is less than $100. i got one and so far it has proven very good at finding the microwave ovens in fast food joints. it also detected the local police's little automatic speed sign which they use to warn people that they might be speeding, from a whole 1 block away. my biggest worry is that when i drive into the parking lot at work, it goes crazy (i work in the space program). the mail order houses that carry the 2200 all sold out immediately, and then started switching customers to the 2300, which is identical, but cost $6-10 more. due to the wonders of supply and demand, the mail order places found all sorts of cute excuses for raising the prices despite what their ads said. libel laws prevent me from naming names -- there's no point in singling anyone out because in fact they all lied about one thing or another. i called Uniden and asked about the 2200 vs. 2300 and they said that originally the 2200 lacked the VG-2 feature (which makes it invisible to cop radar detector detectors) but they later added it in. so either the 2200 or the 2300 is okay. i looked around electronics stores in the Pasadena area and no one carried Unidens. then i noticed they are at K-Mart, but for more than the mail order prices. looking forward to seeing if this thing actually saves my butt. BTW, what do people do to hide theirs? i am paranoid that the cops will see it and assume i am a criminal and will find some excuse to stop me and give me a ticket for something else. not that i am paranoid, but i do live in the city that gave you Mark Furhman and the Rodney King four. not that i don't respect and revere our fine offices in blue and the excellent job they do..... paul weissman 94a mid-life crisis red
