From: Eric_Rowland@BayNetworks.COM (Eric Rowland) Subject: Petra Watch - Day 15 Date: Tue, 5 Sep 1995 15:38:33 -0400
A quick report on Petra, our on-line colleague who came from the Netherlands to buy a Miata: She showed up in Santa Clara on Friday at 10:30pm after a day of driving down Hwy 1 from Eureka - with the hardtop on. #10 of the top 10 reasons for top up - You bought your miata with a hardtop, and have to ferry it from Seattle to L.A. for shipment to Rotterdam. The first thing we did was to jettison the hardtop (quite easy, really) so she could get her first top down ride in her Miata (after a bit of guidance in boot installation). Over the weekend we proceded to drive Skyline (Hwy 35) to San Francisco, Hwy 9/236 to Big Basin and Santa Cruz, Summit Road, Pierce Road and Bear Creek - some of the best Miata roads around - either in her 'blue dream' or my supercharged gumball. It's fun to have two blue Miatas in the driveway! I've done most of the aggressive driving, but last night she decided to show me what she's learned. Wow! If everyone who rides with me feels like I did last night, I apologize to them! I don't know if I don't drive as fast or it's just because *I* wasn't at the wheel (probably the case) but man that car can scream!! Yes, a bone stock Miata is fun, too! A short time later we had a fun stoplight grand prix with a Del Sol. (Five months with my supercharger with noone to 'challenge' me and she finds on on her third day. Not fair!) She said that she laments for her Dutch compatriots who don't get to drive these roads, but something tells me she'd make any road exciting. She'll be heading back to LA soon, so if you see someone with Mariner Blue and the hardtop on - she's got a good reason! (though we did discuss shipping the hardtop separately...)
