From: "RUSSELL S. SOBEL" Subject: A/C noise, top alignment, front end noise Date: Fri, 1 Sep 1995 15:08:46 -0400
This is my first attempt at posting to the list. I am a newbie, but have just finished looking thru all of the old list entries and have a few problems which I could not find answers to. I have a Red 1995 which I leased in March of this year. Here are my problems. I would GREATLY appreciate any help anyone could send me. 1) When my Air Conditioner is on I get a high pitched whining noise soon after the compressor cuts on. It fades away in about 10 seconds. The noise is similar to the whistle from a boiling teapot. Every time the compressor comes on this happens again. I have noticed that this problem only occurs when I'm driving (not sitting in idle). My thought is that it has something to do with the vacuum pressure created at higher RPMs. Anyone got any suggestions? 2) Something has happened to the alignment of my soft top. The driver's side latch will no longer hook correctly. The little button that you push to open the lock when taking down the top does not click fully into place anymore. I can force it into place if I hit the latch very hard with my hand. It appears that what's happening is that the rounded bar that slides up to latch is riding up on one side and not hooking under like it should. Anyone got advice? My dealership said that they could realign the top, but that it would cause more problems in the long run. They said to see if it will move back into place on its own. It's been 3 months and still no change. 3) Lastly, my passenger side front end makes a clicking noise when I take right hand curves. The noise is coming from the tire/suspension area. It does not happen in left hand turns, and only on really bumpy roads does it happen when going straight. What in the world could it be??? It appears to depend on whether that side of the car is elevated (as it would be in a right hand turn) or whether it is depressed. My dealership asked me to wait a few thousand miles to see if it "settles in" because they had no clue as to what it was. I really love my new baby!! It is so much fun on these windy, hilly, West Virginia roads. (Don't know about winter yet, though!!) Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.
