There's an excellent description of the connectors used for the fuel filter shroud in the Miata Enthusiast's Manual. Essentially, the connectors look like a hollow wall anchor device, with a plastic screw inserted into a vented plastic collar that expands when seated. The problem is, as you found, that they seal well enough to fasten the connectors, but not well enough to stop the rotation. The manual suggests to hold a flat-blade screwdriver under the collar part and gently apply some torque, while slowing unscrewing the screw. It worked for me (about 4 weeks ago). Also helpful was to thoroughly clean the road grit from the area, so they unscrew easier. Amazing how much dirt was in the old filter. Good luck, Bob Buffalo, NY
