In a message dated 95-10-03 22:02:36 EDT, you write: > >You people are a bunch of whiners! > >Granted a higher speed limit to commute in CA would be nice, but ever try >driving 55 in New Mexico???? >Tumbleweed on your right, tumbleweed on your left. >It's a 3 hour tour at 70mph from Las Cruces to Albuquerque-imagine at 55mph >how long it would take. >Scary. > >Sounds like the "plain" states with no traffic need the higher speeds than >the CA commuters. >At least you have other drivers to make life more interesting. > > For the CA commute it doesn't matter what the speed limit is because you probably won't get over 25mph anyway. I use to have a 22 mile commute that took 1:15 to 1:30 each morning. One morning it took 30 minutes to go 3 miles. I'd be happy with the 55 mph speed limit if the traffic really moved that fast at commute time. (Since then I changed jobs. Now my commute is 3/4 of a mile. I have to go through two, count them, TWO stop signs each morning and never get faster then 25 mph.) Other than that, noboby seems to pay much attention to the 55 mph limit in CA anyway. I finally had to have my speedometer checked because while doing 65 and 70 cars were always passing me like I was standing still. Turns out my speedometer was about 5 mph off at 60 mph. So now I travel at 75 mph (when I can) and cars still pass me like I'm standing still but at least I know it's becasue they're fast, not that I'm slow. Have Fun :-) Ken '92 (Yellow) Sundance
