Hi there,

I'm a newcomer to this mailing list and I must say that I have enjoyed
reading the messages that are sent around.  I purchased an
"experienced" white '91 in April of this year - only 36,000 kms!  It's
really a great car but you all know that.

Welcome!  I like your term for a used vehicle .. "experienced".  Is that like 
"brand-new challenged"?  ;-)

I have a few questions that I'm hoping you might be able to shed some
light on.

1) When I used my windshield wipers on the intermittent setting, just
before the blades wipe the windshield there is a single click noise.
Is this normal?

I have also heard this on mine .. don't believe there's anything to worry about.

2) The finish on my car is really hard to maintain.  When I first got
the car I used a light rubbing compound and waxed it and it was ok for
a short period of time. Now it looks dirty and dull.  Are there any
products you can recommend to bring the finish back?

Try Meguiar's #9 polish.  It might bring back that shine for you.  

3) The smell of gas in my trunk is really bad.  I've read in the Miata
Club magazine that you should not fill your gas tank too full to
eliminate this problem so I don't and it still stinks!  Any thoughts on
how to cure this problem?

I've read a suggestion whereby the spare tire is wrapped in plastic.  I'm not 
sure as to the genesis of your problem, but you might try this.
