A style bar is basically main hoop design bar but with no rear supports or cross-member. They are affectionately known as mouse traps to racers. If you are serious about any thought of added protection, buy a proper roll-bar. Most driving schools dictate that your head must be 2" below the main hoop to be legal in hard-top off racing, otherwise to take a road-race school you may have to have a hard-top anyway. Roll-bars are a bit more involved to install, but I installed my Autopower bar in 2.5 hrs with just simple tools and a drill.
