I see this fairly often here in Southern Cal.  And there are always more
soft tops up than down no matter how perfect the weather.  I sometimes
think that most of the denizens of this area are spoiled by our great
weather, since it seems that the more fickle the climate the more the
Miata owners appreciate the chance to go topless.

Disclaimer:  No judgement about "Top up good, top down bad", or vice
versa.  I don't want to start *that* again.  Just a sociological
observation.
