Thank you all for your help, wasn't able to reply till this morning.
I was afraid it might be something like this.  As soon as I scrape 
together enough cash :) I'll try the various solutions that were proposed
and report on how well they worked!

On the bushings going bad, I had wondered if as they got older the 
tolerances loosened up and this was the result...  Anyone had any experiance
replacing bushings?  How big a job is it?
