Living in Newfoundland, which is floating in the North Atlantic, I have a few observations about winter driving you might find interesting: 1. Four snow tires are much better than two because there are many occassions when it is far more important to stop than go. 2. If you buy only two, ake sute that they are EXACTLY the same size as the front tires. In 1975 I bought a Datsun 280Z (the predecessor of the Nissan 300ZX), which I drove for three winters. I could not find a pair of 60 series snow tires to match the fronts so I installed 70 series. The cars handling became squirrelly beyond belief. Never again. 3. Put some weight in the trunk. 15 to 30 kilograms of sand or bricks in the back increase the remarkably. 4. What kink of snow tires do I use on my Miata ? None. I store it and use my Nissan Pathfinder, which has four snow tires ! John Mallam 94 Red John Mallam jmallam@terra.nlnet.nf.ca
