Reply to: RE>Dealer Questions Dan asks about break-in procedures. The "official" Miata Club of America break-in advice is as follows: (Adapted from the the Maintenance section on Gary's web page, currently "under construction"): The Miata Club of America has recommended the following break-in procedures for new Miatas: 1. Keep engine revolutions below 4,000 rpm (except as noted below). 2. Never lug the engine - i.e., stay above 1,800 rpm in all gears (except first gear as needed). 3. Change the oil and filter after the first 500 miles, then at 3,000 miles thereafter, changing the filter each time. 4. Once every 100 miles, accelerate at full throttle in second gear from 2,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm on a safe section of road. 5. Stay below 65 mph. 6. Never ride the clutch. Engage it cleanly and completely, never slip it to hold the car in place on a hill. This always applies. 7. Avoid hard braking for short periods or moderate braking for long periods (descending a mountain) for the first 500 miles. Good luck, Bob (just reporting the above info, not justifying it Buffalo, NYU
