If you want to close the trunk without getting fingerprints on it grap
the U-shape ring that engages the lock and pull down.  Just remember
to let go when you are about 2/3 down to the trunk locking.  I started
doing this because in 1990 some of the rubber trunk stoppers were too
tall and there was a tendency to push on the trunk to make it lock.
Since the trunk is thin sheet metal over the years this would result 
in small dents or impressions in the trunk lid.
