Here in Alberta, the provicial government has recently removed the nighttime and truck maximum speed limit on our Highway #2 between Calgary and Edmonton. Highway #2 is two and three lane divided highway (median is mostly ditch). All traffic may proceed at 110km/h 24 hours a day (about 69 MPH). As you can imagine, many drivers (including myself) often go 125 to 140 km/h with impunity. I remember hearing news reports of some RCMP detachments along the highway stopping speeders with an average speed of 144km/h (90 MPH). When everybody is going this fast it "ain't so much fun no more". My guess is the government is waiting to see how many wrecks there are on #2 before they reimpose descent speed limits. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy tearing down the road as much as anybody else. There's no joy in driving in traffic where everybody is going 130km/h. It's just getting scary now... (Ward) - '92 Silver
