Andy Poling looked into the strange characters that some people are finding in their daily digests. Here is his explanation: ----------------------------- I found where it is happening - at our mail gateway (PMDF on VMS). The reason is that people are putting non-printable characters in their messages to the list. PMDF sees this and uses QUOTED-PRINTABLE encoding to ensure that the message will get delivered intact. While I think that the PMDF folks are a little too enamoured with MIME, I can't argue with their rationale that most mail transport systems are still 7-bit and that 8-bit messages need to be encoded. My best recommendation to the doomed reader is to get a newer MIME-capable MUA... -Andy ----------------------------------- I'm not sure how many of you are having this problem.
