Ralph Alder asks about paintless dent removal (Dentmasters, etc.). Our Miata had been hailed upon some time before we bought it. I counted a dozen or so quite noticeable dents in the upper surface, and when one took the time to look very closely on a sunny day, one could count about twice that. We tried a paintless dent removal franchise place in the DC area. They counted something around thirty dents(!). They initially wanted something around $500 to take them all out, and my wife asked what they'd do for $200 - like, the major ones. They thought about it for a while, and agreed to do the whole car for $250 or so (don't remember the exact numbers). Sold! The work came out as perfectly as any body work I've ever seen. This is from a person who has only found one good body shop (other than the Dentmasters folks, who don't do fill and paint work - at least this shop didn't at that time) in the DC area - and that one closed. I've heard the same thing, RE: secret processes and all, and I've also heard of such shops who allow customers to watch, and even demonstrate the technique for clubs or whoever. As I understand it, they basically just patiently work the metal with the appropriate dollies and spoons (no leering double entendre remarks over these tools, please). It's just a matter of artistry, or at least high skill. Whether all such franchises are as good as the one we used, - who knows? See if you can find someone who has used such a place in the local area. If it comes out anywhere nearly as well as our car did, you'll be ecstatic about the results! --Jack & Anne & KANSEI--
