Cori, I'm a dear old Dad, I guess. At any rate, I'm 60. I've had my 90 Miata for 6 years. And it's still a delight to shift gears in it! If your Dad likes mechanical things, he'll be thrilled with the manual transmission. I like the power steering. My daughter has manual steering on her '90 Miata, and I much prefer mine. I like the leather-wrapped steering wheel as it's more of a hand-full and feels good. You ought to be able to find a '90 Miata for around $8500-$10,000. Look for an interior that's been cared for and for evidence the person changed oil regularly. TheMiata's extremely reliable and trouble-free! Low-mileage Miatas are not unusual, but I wouldn't be afraid of one with a lot of miles, if it looks like it's been well-cared for. If it's got over 60,000 miles, see that the timing belt has been replaced. Look for a top that's been cared for and a rear window that's not all scratched up or discolored. These are clues the owner was careful. Check the rear-window zipper to see that it's in good condition. This is another clue as to good care. A clean engine compartment is good news/bad news. It shows a lot of care, but you can't see if any fluid leaks have developed, as easily. There are a lot of accessories for the Miata, and they'll be cheaper if you get them as part of the package. Pricey and nice extras are: hard top, tonneau cover, limited slip differential, CD player; supercharger, etc. Mine's red, too, and it has a wonderful glossy finish! The Miata's red paint loves Meguiar's products - Swirl Remover #9, Show Car Glaze #7, and Medallion for Paint! Good luck! Bill Allen Seattle
