The only thing I could discern was a shiny toothed surface which didn't look at all worn. No cracking or frayed edges at all. After looking at it I decided that it probably had many more miles left in it. I don't, however, regret changing it...I didn't know it's condition and I hate being stranded on the road. Certainly, these things don't have a fixed, predictable life span. I wouldn't hesitate to go a bit over the 60K point...change it at your convenience.
