>Peter, > >You changed the oil every 250 Miles in the Acura? Isn't this overkill? > OK..OK.. so I made an itsy bitsy mistake. (dammit Captiain...I'm a pilot not a math teacher!) Changing oil every 250 miles would be a bit pricey...I knew I should of kept away from converting KMS to miles. Ya we Cunucks are in the land of Kilometers. Does 2500 miles sound a little better????? I also caught a few flames (ouch!) regarding my statement on synthetic oils...I kind of thought I would get some reaction! First of all....Synthetic oils are great ,fantastic, cool, awesome etc.....oils, but the point I was trying to get across was that though Synthetic oils are a good product, they may be a bit of an overkill for the average NORMALY ASPERATED (I'm not an english teacher either!) engine. The main advantages of synthetics are the extream temps. You should use synthetics in a turbocharged engine due to the high temps it is exposed to. If you live in the Artic and see -40F....use synthetics. If you just drive around in normal conditions you can still go nuts and use synthetic oil if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but the jury is still out over the end results. Synthetics are excellent for a gearbox situation due to their chemistry. BTW...I have used synthetics in my Miata on and off over its 5 year life. I have done oil analysis with both types of oil and have seen very little difference in the results. It seems oil is like some sort of strange religion, once you use something that you feel is great...you will defend it to the end. If you insult a guys/girls oil.. you might as well have kicked their grandmother in the shin. Now....for the required Miata content...do you really need the side clamps to hold down your hardtop? I borrowed a hardtop from a fellow member (I bet I have the only red car around with a yellow (oh boy!) hard top!...I know..I know you are probably saying..who the heck would want that ungly combonation????? Well.....I'm a little frugal/cheap.) and I'm not too excited about buying side mounts and drilling holes until I buy my own.
