SPECIAL EDITION AND LIMITED PRODUCTION MIATAS 1991 Special Edition British Racing Green with tan leather interior, tan boot, and black top Equipment: Nardi wood shift knob and hand brake handle, tan tonneau cover (some owners report having a black tonneau cover), stainless sill plates, air conditioning, compact disc player, limited slip differential, includes A and B package options (power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels, AM-FM/cassette stereo, cruise control, power windows, headrest speakers) Optional: hardtop, automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes Production: limited to 4000, numbered sequence with badge, all produced between 12-03-90 and 3-30-91 BRG Miata Registry: Don Diget, 809 Beechlawn Court, East Lansing, Michigan 48823, phone (517) 351-7042 Blank dash badges: replacement BRG-SE blank dash badges are available from Chuck Price, Puget Sound Chapter, phone (206) 565-0515 Canada: The 1991 Canadian BRG was designated "Limited Edition" although production was not limited. The models were not registered or numbered, and there was no plaque. There were about 1400 BRGs sold in Canada in 1991. The Canadian model did not have an air bag, leather- wrapped steering wheel, tonneau cover, air conditioning, or cruise control. Still, it was well-equipped. All Canadian Miatas had daytime running lights. Australia: About 300 1991 MX-5 BRG-SEs were sold in Australia General: The BRG color has been used in other countries since 1991. It is common in Britian, Canada, and Japan. It is called Neo Green in Japan and Australia. In the U.S., this color is unique to the 1991 SE. 1992 Black Miata Black exterior, tan leather interior, tan boot, tan top Equipment: power windows, and includes all A package options (power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum alloy wheels, AM-FM/cassette stereo) Optional C Package (black only): Nardi wood shift knob and hand brake handle, stainless sill plates, BBS alloy wheels, includes all other B package options (cruise control, headrest speakers, automatic power antenna) Optional: hardtop, automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, compact disc player, limited slip differential Production: around 7500, not limited "The Black Miata" was a special model designation in Mazda advertising. In the U.S., most black Miatas came with the C package, and advertisements later in the model year imply that the C package became standard. 1992 Sunburst Yellow Sunburst Yellow paint was a $250 option and used 3 coats of paint. A yellow hardtop was an option. In the U.S., yellow was available only with the A option package (power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum alloy wheels, AM-FM/cassette stereo), and only after January, 1992. Most had air conditioning, and many yellows had limited slip differentials. Production: 1500 for the U.S. The yellow was not a special edition model in the U.S., but its production was limited. Sunburst Yellow is the rarest Miata production color. A new limited edition yellow model, called the "California", was offered in 1995 in Britian. There were 300 units, and they, were numbered. Standard equipment: engine immobiliser, 195/50VR15 tires, power steering, Clarion CRX601R RDS stereo. Germany and Belgium: A yellow "Sunracer", with a detuned (90 bhp) 1.6 liter engine, was offered in Germany and in Belgium; these models have fake suade "Nubetex" interior, and they are numbered. The German model was limited to 500 units, and had ABS, two airbags, power steering, power windows, and optional alloy wheels. In Australia, the yellow was called "Malibu Gold", and around 50 were sold in 1992. 1993 Limited Edition Black with red leather interior, red boot and tonneau cover, black top Equipment: Nardi leather shift knob, BBS alloy wheels, Mazda Sensory Sound System with CD player, stainless sill plates, Sport Suspension (includes Bilstein shocks), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, air conditioning, ABS, limited slip differential, includes all A and B package options (power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors, alloy wheels, cruise control, power windows, headrest speakers, automatic power antenna) Note that in 1993, AM-FM/cassette stereo became standard on all Miatas, and the Mazda Sensory Sound System and power mirrors were made available. Optional: hardtop, automatic transmission Production: limited to 1500. This was a numbered sequence. Black/Red Registry: Frank Potter (fpotter@his.com) Australia: The 1993 Limited Edition Australian model was Classic red, with tan leather interior, tan top and boot, and BBS wheels. Production was limited to 300. 1994 M Edition Montego Blue Mica with tan leather interior, tan boot and top Equipment: Nardi wood shift knob and brake handle, polished alloy wheels with locks, air conditioning, stainless sill plates, custom floor mats, M Edition key ring/badge/lapel pin, includes all A and B package options (power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential, cruise control power windows, headrest speakers, power antenna) Options: Hardtop, automatic transmission, ABS (standard with automatic transmission) Production: 3000, described in Mazda advertisement as "limited production" , described in the brochure as "special edition" 1994 R Package A $1500 option package, not a special model Equipment: Sport Suspension (Bilsteins, heavy-duty rear springs, heavier sway bars), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential Not available with automatic or with A, B, C option packages Optional: hardtop, air conditioning Production: 1206, not limited 1995 M Edition Merlot Mica (burgundy) with tan leather interior, low-back seats, tan boot and top Equipment: Leather Nardi shift knob, 15" BBS wheels with high- performance tires, cut pile carpeting, stainless sill plates, air conditioning, CD player and 4 speakers, ABS, exterior badge, M Edition key ring/badge/lapel pin, custom floor mats, Popular Equipment Package (formerly called B package, includes: power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential, cruise control, power windows, power antenna) Optional: hardtop, automatic transmission Production: (3500) According to press release, "to be produced for only six months." Described in press release as "limited edition" and as "special M Edition"). Britian: A special edition model, "Gleneagles", was offered in 1995 in Montego Blue Mica, with champaigne leather interior, upgraded stereo, and a tartan gearlever gaiter. 1995 R Package A $1500 option package and not a special model Equipment: Sport Suspension (Bilsteins, heavy-duty rear springs, heavier sway bars), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential Not available with automatic or with popular equipment package Optional: hardtop, air conditioning Production: ? Australia: The special model is called the "Clubman". It is like the U.S. R package, but includes more accessories. Equipment: Torsen limited slip, Bilstein shocks, body color rear mudguards, power mirrors, electric antenna, Nardi leather sheel. Air conditioning is optional, but power steering and automatic transmission are only available on other Australian models. Japan: Dark blue metallic has been a popular color for special edition Miatas in Japan. In 1995, there were two "satellite blue" special Miatas with dark blue fabric tops. One was called the "R Limited", and had bright red leather interior and the 15 inch BBS wheels. Other equipment: light flywheel, 4.3 to 1 axle ratio, Torsen limited slip, Bilstein shocks, Potenza 195/50 R15 tires. power steering, power windows, Nardi steering wheel, wood brake handle and gearshift knob. A second Japanese model for 1995 was the "G Limited". It had the conventional alloy wheels and the black interior. Other equipment: Momo three-spoke leather steering wheel, power steering, power windows, Torsen limited slip. Automatic transmission is an option. The black seats MAY be the imitation suade Nubutex; they do have separate headrests as in the 1995 M Edition U.S. model.
