I still think the triangle comes purely from the bulb - you may be able to see reflections on the reflector of the shield that creates the cutoff. When I put the 80/100W bulbs in a Honda Civic, the pattern stayed exactly the same, and those were stock reflectors that showed absolutely no sign of a similar beam pattern before the H4 bulbs were installed. Taping over the glass will cut part of your beam, but I'll bet if you put UK bulbs in your continental reflectors, you won't notice a difference from a full UK setup.
