Well Brian, I also have an early '90 model, and had that problem. Once I got stuck in reverse on the HIGHWAY!! I have no idea how putting it in second got it into reverse, but it wasn't coming out. It had happened once before, and I had to have the car towed to a mechanic, who told me the selector fork had slipped off. He stuck something in the reverse sensor hole and fixed it. When it went on teh highway, though, I wound up taking it to mazda who after disassembling the tranny told me that the entire transmission was mangled and (not to alarm you) needed to be REPLACED! I hope that this is not what your problem is. The dealer knew he had me, and, well, he tore me a new a**h*l* with a cinder block. Good Luck, Jon On Wed, 3 Jan 1996, Brian K.
