Sigh. It was just a matter of time, you see the odds were against me. The strange thing was, I sort of was expecting it to happen that night. What happened? I had an accident in Ghost. Well fender bender is more like it. The incident happened slow enough that the air bag didn't go off. I was driving in the left turn lane passed cars that had received the green light about 15 to 20 seconds ago, but the flow had not started yet, when someone decided that the gap in front of him was so he could make a left turn. He didn't see me.The really wierd thing is that just as I was leaving I thought to myself, how strange it was that 8 years ago that night (december 27th) I had been driving to the martial arts when I got into my last accident. (then it was a 1959 pink Cadillac (no joke) with "Non-stop Bop" painted on the hood; the driver was a mobile DJ, who non-stopped, and bopped me in the rear) This time I was driving to martial arts and a Nissan pickup non-go'd and we bopped in da front. The short of it: He's at fault, his insurance is paying. The long of it: Ghost gets a new driver's fender, nose, turn signal lamp. The wierd of it: I called around looking for used bits in the correct white, but to no avail. I ended up talking to Monster Motorsports and found they had stock noses from the Mega-Monster conversions, for $75. This is already painted and decal'd so that's a bunch cheaper than a new one at $106 plus $12 for the Mazda decal, plus $45 for the paint additive to give flex to the paint. However, Monster folks only had red, black and blue. Since Ghost already has a red roll bar (and miata.net stickers) I went with a red nose. This evening, I'll be stopping by the Quik-e-sign and picking up a 20 foot roll of 7" wide red vinyl. Ghost^H^H^H^H^HRudolf gets a pair of red stripes as well as a new name. Darn, just as I was getting ready to work on the 911. Rudolf, the red nosed Miata. Hmmmm, maybe its time for a personalized plate..... -- Miq Millman mmillman@ptdcs2.intel.com 503 642 6139 (Aloha site) AL4-55 Intel, 5200 NE Elam Young Parkway, Hillsboro, OR 97124-6497 See also miq@teleport.com
