I own a car that has a salvage title (not a Miata). I was not happy about it but the minor accident (went into the car in front of me that stopped short) pushed in the left front bumper and slightly bent the frame. This caused the transmission to hang up and not shift properly. The insurance com. said the damage exceded the cost of the car (84 Rabbit) and therefor would be junked. I bought the car from the insurance company after having a shop I trusted say that they thought that the frame could be straightened enough to bring the trans. back into line. That was about 2 years ago. The car has been fine (120,000). I took photos of the damage and kept the repair records just in case I want to sell the car. I would ask the owner of the Miata to prove how bad the damage was. It must have been more than book value but does not necessarily mean serious structural damage. Then again...you might be buying a major headache. Good luck and buyer beware. Mike G. Del Val Miata Club 91 Red B
