From: dherr@extro.ucc.su.OZ.AU (Dennis J. HeRR) Subject: Tapping on very hot day Date: Sat, 3 Feb 1996 00:49:09 -0500
G'day! Yesterday was very hot - when I said hot I mean around 34plus Celcius :) - and I was on street almost all day. About after lunch time, I started to hear this tapping noise from the engine while I was standing still at the signal. It won't disappear until 45000rpm - or in third gear. It remained rest of the day but on my last driving at around midnight, somehow this noise had disappeared. I'm using Mobile 1 since 29,000km - I'm currently near 40,000km - and there's only one grade available in Sydney. I think it's 5W-50. (I'm not so sure about this though.) Is this something I should worry about? I usually hear this tapping noise when I start up the engine after hard driving but this time it suddenly appeared while I was driving - ok, I was standing still waiting for the signal. :) Do I need oil cooler? I drive Momo chan pretty hard - shift at around 6000rpm whenever possible and most of time keep the rev at 4800rpm or more for all day on very hot wheather.
